Margherita Grasselli was born in Perugia on 27th October 1970. In 1994 she graduated with a Political Sciences degree from her city’s University, got married and moved to Rome in 1995.
Margherita undertakes her sculptor activity in September 2011, by attending the courses of Marco Severini, a formal trainer of the Municipality of Rome, at the Academy of Fine Arts. Margherita will attend these courses for 12 years, handcrafting clay and stone, experimenting with resins and suitable materials for handcraft sculptures. She experiments with the technique of coating, using many types of colours and oxides, not least with varnishes, her great passion. She learns different techniques of shaping, with chalk and silicon, through the organisation of ad hoc courses in outdoor structures specifically designated to handcrafting. Her favourite material will always be the clay. She specialised in handcrafting Raku Sila clay, specially blended and treated in accordance to her chamotte request.
In 2011, she launches the ‘Liberarte’ exhibition space, in Rome, via dei Salumi 49, establishing her lab and creating an exposition area where her exhibitions and those of young emerging artists are set up. During the spring of 2018 she meets the curator Ermanno Tedeschi to whom she entrusts her artistic growth. Starting from February 2019 she also open another workspace in Grottaglie, hosted by the company ‘Ceramiche Nicola Fasano’, where, thanks to the owner Franco Fasano, she has the opportunity to improve her knowledge and experimentation of new shaping, varnishing and cooking techniques, under the supervision of master ceramists and artisans in that field.
